Seating, Space, and Everyday Room
The Tiguan sticks to two rows and five seats, built on a 2,791 mm wheelbase and a 4,684 mm overall length. That footprint keeps the cabin sized for a driver, a partner, and up to three kids or passengers, without a third row to manage.
The Atlas stretches the formula. Its 2,980 mm wheelbase, nearly 200 mm longer than the Tiguan's, makes room for a proper third row and seven seats total. The second-row bench splits 60/40 and folds with a built-in armrest, so getting to that third row does not mean climbing over gear.
If your household rarely needs a sixth or seventh seat, the Tiguan's two-row layout is simpler to live with day to day. If you regularly ferry extra kids, cousins, or a full carpool, the Atlas's third row is built for exactly that.
Cargo, Gear, and Weekend Loads
Behind the rear seats, the Tiguan holds 2,843 L of cargo volume, slightly ahead of the Atlas's 2,735 L on the same behind-rear-seats measurement. With only two rows to work around, that space stays open and easy to pack, whether it's a stroller, hockey bags, or a full grocery run.
The Atlas's third row shares space with the cargo hold when all seven seats are in use. Fold that third row flat and the Atlas opens up for bigger, bulkier hauls, luggage for a family road trip or gear for a weekend away with extended family along.

The Tiguan's output climbs with trim: 201 hp and 221 lb-ft on the Trendline 4MOTION, up to 268 hp and 258 lb-ft on the Highline Turbo R-Line. The Atlas runs 269 hp and 273 lb-ft, closer to the Tiguan's top-output trim than its base one.
Fuel use tracks with size. The Tiguan posts a combined rating between 9.2 and 9.5 L/100 km depending on trim, while the Atlas comes in at 11.0 L/100 km combined, about 1.7 to 1.8 L/100 km more over a typical week of commuting and errands.

Screen size grows with trim on both SUVs. The Tiguan starts with a 12.9-inch touchscreen on the Trendline and Comfortline trims and moves up to a 15-inch display with a 12-speaker Harman Kardon system on the Highline Turbo R-Line. The Atlas's Highline trim runs a 12-inch touchscreen paired with a 10-speaker Harman Kardon setup, and the Execline steps up to 11 speakers.
Climate control follows a similar pattern. The Tiguan's entry trims run dual-zone control, moving to three-zone climate control with front and rear controls on the Highline Turbo R-Line, the same three-zone setup found on the Atlas Highline. Both SUVs also pair a 10.25-inch configurable digital instrument cluster with the myVW app for remote features on their respective trims.
